Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

Hi everyone from the fabulous Sew Mama Sew! Welcome to the BubblegumBags Blog. You can read more about me if you'd like, but basically I am a life-long sewist that just recently discovered the wonder of the online crafting world. This blog is my space to stay motivated with my endless WIP list and to share some inspiration with other crafters. My blog is still in diapers, but I wanted to participate in the SMS giveaway day since that blog was one of my first discoveries last fall. I was thumbing around the internet trying to figure out how to make my own bias binding and I found a tutorial on SMS. It just happened to be giveaway day then too....needless to say, I've been a frequent visitor to many blogs everyday since.

So, here is a giveaway for my fellow fabric hoarders...from my stash to yours.

I have a fat quarter bundle from Pink Castle Fabrics, a quilt shop that I have ordered from more times than I care to count. It includes the following:

1. Joel Dewberry True Colors Woodgrain in Dill
2. AMH Sealing Wax in Peridot
3. Oval Elements in Mood Indigo
4. Jewel in Dark Blue
5. Joel Dewberry True Colors Woodgrain in Straw
6. Script in Honeycomb

The bundle also includes two 1/2 yard cuts of solid fabric. The green is "Leaf Green" from Free Spirit Designer solids and the yellow is "Cheddar" from the Robert Kaufman Kona solid line. Apologies for the shadows in the pics, I was running desperately out of sun and time to get these photographed!

To win, please leave a comment telling me what you look for most in a blog. What brings you back, what tutorials are the most exciting for you? As a new blogger, I'm looking for advice from you guys! Tell me what makes your favorite blogs special to you. This giveaway will be open until Saturday May 17th at noon EST, international crafters are welcome too. One winner will be chosen at random.  Thanks in advance for your comments and to Sew Mama Sew for sponsoring such a fun event!

  4. Thank you for the giveaway! I also just recently discovered the online crafting world. My favorite blogs talk about the creating process -- what gave the author her idea, how she overcame any difficulties, shortages and mistakes, how she put the fabric together. sarah@forrussia.org

I like regular posts even if it is just a photo with a few sentences.

  37. In a blog I look for tutorials or simple patterns using precut sizes. It's helpful to a beginner like me since quilting magazines/books are usually overwhelming and you're just not ready to commit to the price or the craft quite yet (more discouraging than anything). I like the option of precut sizes whether I use them or not just because I struggled with cutting things straight/squared away in the beginning so it was nice to use a tutorial that I could grab a jelly roll or charm pack when I was too discouraged to cut and mess something up again. Blogs are my number one resource for simple quilts and useful mini quilting projects until I'm good enough to try something complex! Thanks for sharing and reading this! Whew!

  44. I love tutorials, but also am interested in beautifully done items, no matter what the medium.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I check out one blog almost every day. It's updated 2-3 x per week. I use this blog to "leapfrog" to others, so I like the other blogs linked by the blogger. I keep other blogs I like and have found along the way in my favorites. I like tutorials, but also just reading about the process and the "eye candy" of fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love to visit blogs that are humorous, easy to read, have great photos, and have numerous interesting tutorials.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like blogs with beautiful pictures. I prefer not to see too many tutorials, usually there are already ten tutorials just like that out there and if a blog gets too tutorial heavy I quit reading it. I love stories about finding inspiration and also critical reviews. If you sew someones pattern and it really doesn't work out, let people know. and tell them how you managed to fudge. Or what was the easy part and what was hard.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm new to quilting so haven't really read any blogs yet but what usually keeps my interest are the color choices and how the prints are textured and the how the colors are used within the quilt

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks for the giveaway! I love tutorials for creative sewing projects, especially ones that can be completed quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What I love in my favourite blogs are the crisp and professional photos. I am not able to achieve this in my picture taking and when putting them on my blog so I really appreciate how long it takes to get it right. Great pictures draw me in and often I just look at the pics of quilts and projects. Have fun blogging - it takes time but is very worthwhile.

  173. I like blogs where the blogger shares a little about their life, and a lot about what they're sewing and making. I like tutorials, but would prefer that bloggers would put them in a PDF format so I could print them out, because as a general rule, I don't take my computer with me to sew.

  174. The blogs I tend to continue reading are a bit of a conglomeration of things, sewing, life, tutorials, and are regular posters. The other thing that most have in common is a heavy smattering of humor, I like bloggers that don't tend to take themselves so seriously.

  183. I too like the pictures but like the personality and home life. I am looking for a few blogs for tutoring but others just for their chatty style and others for eye candy.

  190. I like tutorials even if they are similar to others as we all have a way of doing things. I think bright colors and funny stories make me come back, being human and admitting you use a seam ripper and maybe found a better way to do something. Good luck and enjoy the process.

  191. I follow a lot of blogs and they are all a bit different. I love seeing progress on things- not just an end shot. Tutorials are great- even small ones. You never know that something you just don't even think about how you do it, someone else doesn't have a clue. Thanks for participating in the Giveaway Day.

I return to blogs that have tutorials and I like it also when they also show progress on a project and discuss what they are doing - including the problems and the tips to make things easier.

Best of luck to you and to me!

  194. I like bloggers who write well, have a very good sense of humor, who tell us a bit about their lives, who take in focus pictures and who blog at least once a week. I don't need tutorials but I love hearing about the design process.

  197. I just started sewing/quilting a few months back and I've learned mostly from YouTube, blogs like Jolly Jabber. It helped me so much to see step by step tutorials and close ups of everything. I love the quilt alongside too, I just started one and I love it! Thanks for the giveaway!
